The deadline for submitting your proposals through our online system was 15 February 2011.
:: The venues The conference will be held at the University of Glasgow. Founded in 1451, Glasgow University is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world. The first teaching was done in Glasgow Cathedral, before gaining accommodation elsewhere in the city centre. The University moved to the Gilmorehill campus, its current location in the city’s bustling and easily accessible West End, in 1870. All scholarly sessions, plenary sessions, and coffee and lunch breaks will take place in one of two buildings located across the street from one another, within approximately five minutes walking distance from the nearest underground station. :: Fees and registration Registration will be available from approximately mid-February 2011 through a dedicated web page at the University of Glasgow. Early bird registration will be available through approximately mid-June, with a substantially reduced registration fee. Thereafter, it will rise considerably. Besides enabling conference participation for individual delegates, the registration fee includes teas, coffees, and lunches on 3-6 August. Registered delegates are also entitled to attend the two receptions, on 2 and 3 August, and will have access to the jazz evening on 5 August. The costs for participation in the conference dinner on 6 August will be additional, and these will be announced in due course. All fees are payable in British pounds sterling (GBP, or £). :: Membership If you wish to join ICOHTEC and receive the member rate for registration, please go to the ICOHTEC web site for a membership application and send in the required dues. Then complete your conference registration. :: Accommodation Delegates will have the choice of booking one of several different categories of hotels near the university or in the city centre at special rates. There is also the possibility of booking reasonably priced student accommodation in a variety of locations. The accommodation listings and directions for booking will be on the LOC web page by mid-February.
:: Excursions Scotland was one of the earliest regions in the world to industrialise, and Clydeside, of which Glasgow forms an important part, was one of the most important industrial and technological powerhouses in the world throughout the 19th and well into the 20th century. A variety of excursions are being planned to enable delegates to become familiar some of this heritage. Excursions and activities being arranged include a number of venues in Glasgow itself, for instance a visit to the new Transport Museum, which will be completed in spring 2011, or to the Hunterian Museum’s instruments collection. Further afield, there will be opportunities to visit the site of Robert Owen’s famous experiment in industrial and social engineering at New Lanark, and the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Details on the events, dates and times, and associated costs will be available when registration goes live in approximately mid-February 2011.
:: Travel grant The ICOHTEC Board will make available a limited number of grants for graduates, post-graduates and young researchers who are giving papers or present posters at the 2011 ICOHTEC Symposium Consumer Choice and Technology in Glasgow, Scotland...
