Conference theme

This year’s theme, “Engaging the History of Technology: Bridging Disciplines and Perspectives for Global Challenges”, invites critical reflection on how technological histories intersect with today’s global challenges, from climate change and environmental injustice to political polarisation and artificial intelligence.

The conference brings together scholars from different regions, disciplines, and methodological traditions to explore how the history of technology can contribute to wider debates on society, environment, culture, knowledge, power, and public engagement.

Draft programme

The programme will open on Thursday, 8 October 2026, at the Metropolis Conference Hall in Alexandroupolis, with welcome notes, a keynote speech by Dr Irina Gouzevitc, the award ceremonies for the Maurice Daumas Prize and the Turriano ICOHTEC Prize, and a welcome party.

The main academic sessions will take place on Friday, 9 October, and Saturday, 10 October, at the Medical School. The programme includes parallel panels, roundtables, the ICOHTEC Executive Committee Meeting, the ICOHTEC General Assembly, closing remarks, and a farewell party at the Port of Alexandroupolis.

An optional excursion to Thrace is planned for Sunday, 11 October. Conference participants will also have the opportunity to join special visiting tours at the Ethnological Museum of Thrace during the conference days.

Please note that the programme is still a draft and may be subject to further updates.
