The IEEE History Center is celebrating IEEE History Week 2026, highlighting the wide range of historical activities and programs developed across IEEE throughout the month of October.
Of particular interest to historians of technology is the webinar “The Future Has Happened Before: How History Helps Engineers Respond, Innovate, and Lead,” taking place on Monday, 5 October 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. ET (16:00–17:00 CEST).
For more than forty years, the IEEE Life Members’ Fellowship in Electrical History has supported doctoral and postdoctoral research in the history of electrical engineering and technology. The webinar brings together four former IEEE History Fellows — Mary Ann Hellrigel, Hyungsub Choi, Damilola Adebayo, and Michelle Spektor — in a conversation moderated by W. Bernard Carlson.
Drawing on their research and teaching, the participants will discuss technological turning points from electrification to computing and explore what historical research can contribute to understanding technological change today.
IEEE History Week also includes a broader programme of history-related events throughout October.
