Formation of a Culture of Frugal Energy Consumption in the Context of Social Security

Abstract
This article examines the philosophical dimensions of energy efficiency culture in relation to social security. It discusses energy-saving behaviour within the framework of energy ethics and applied ethics, linking patterns of energy consumption to broader social, economic, and ethical questions. The authors analyse how economic and social factors, including energy prices, affect both energy use and social security.
The study is supported by empirical research involving 997 respondents from Ukraine, currently located in different parts of the world. It argues that a culture of frugal energy consumption depends on the interaction between personal ethics, knowledge, social norms, responsibility, technical infrastructure, and information support. The article identifies values, norms, responsibility, knowledge, experience, readiness for change, and interest in innovative energy-saving technologies as key factors in shaping responsible energy consumption behaviour.
