Call for Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board Members of ICON: Journal of the International Committee for the History of Technology (ICOHTEC)
ICOHTEC invites expressions of interest for the following positions:
· Editor-in-Chief of ICON
· Book Review Editor
· Assistant Editor / Editorial Board Member
ICON is the biannual journal of ICOHTEC, founded in 1995. It publishes essays, research articles, research briefs, review essays, and book reviews on all aspects and periods of the history of technology by members and non-members alike. It devotes special attention to the discussion of technologies in their socio-economic and cultural settings.
ICOHTEC seeks an Editor-in-Chief with interest and a vision for strengthening the journal’s intellectual profile, visibility, readership, and accessibility. In addition, we seek editorial board members to assist the Editor-in-Chief in the journal’s work.
The Role
The Editor-in-Chief will provide academic leadership for ICON and work closely with the Editorial Board, the ICOHTEC Executive Committee, authors, reviewers, and the publisher.
Key responsibilities include:
· Providing strategic direction for the journal. Ideas for increasing accessibility, financial feasibility, and global participation are particularly encouraged.
· Managing manuscript submissions and overseeing the peer-review process.
· Appointing and working with associate editors, editorial board members, and reviewers, as appropriate.
· Exploring ways to make the journal more accessible and engaging for readers, including open-access publishing and thematic issues.
· Promoting geographical, methodological, and thematic diversity.
The appointment will be for a period of four years, or as otherwise determined, beginning in January 2027.
The Editor-in-Chief will work in collaboration with the ICOHTEC Executive Committee and the journal’s Editorial Board. Details regarding editorial support and resources will be discussed with interested candidates.

· Any proposed editorial team structure.
