Summer School: “Linguistic Landscapes – Using Signs and Symbols to Translate Cities” (Venice, 29 June–3 July 2026)

Venice International University (Isola di San Servolo, Venice) is now accepting applications for the summer school “Linguistic Landscapes: Using Signs and Symbols to Translate Cities” (29 June–3 July 2026), an interdisciplinary course on how public signs and urban semiotics—from street names and billboards to images, graffiti, and other multimodal cues—shape the way we read and experience cities. The programme welcomes finalists (BA3), MA and PhD students from a wide range of fields (including linguistics, sociology, history, cultural studies, political studies, translation, and related disciplines). The call is open from 2 December 2025 to 31 March 2026, with only 20 places available; participants receive a certificate and 2 ECTS.
