IEEE is seeking a Historian to join its History & Heritage team.
Reporting to the Director of Heritage Programs, the Historian will conduct independent historical research, create accessible content for public and academic audiences, and oversee key heritage initiatives under minimal supervision. The position combines historical research, content development, programme management, and stakeholder engagement.
Key responsibilities include:
– conducting independent research and producing engaging historical content for public outreach, educational initiatives, articles, and conference presentations;
– overseeing day-to-day operations for assigned heritage initiatives, including exhibit design, curation, circulation, and coordination with exhibit development vendors for the IEEE Global Museum;
– contributing to organizational newsletters, fostering relationships within the professional history community, and supporting committee and volunteer engagement.
Applicants should hold a Master’s or other advanced degree in history, education, public history/museology, archival science, or a related field. A Ph.D. in one of these fields is preferred. IEEE requires 4–7 years of postgraduate experience in a related field; 7–10 years are preferred. MA and Ph.D. degrees count as experience.
